A vibrant space for connection, dialogue, and the celebration of theatrical works by women. Dedicated to amplifying their voices and perspectives, Mujeres Creando | Women Creating highlights their deep commitment to human rights through the transformative and unifying power of theater.
Water People Theater calls on Latin American and Spanish female writers to submit theatrical works exploring the theme of human rights. An international jury of accomplished professionals from theater, academia, poetry, and literature reviews the submissions, selecting outstanding texts to honor and showcase.

The “Women Creating” theatrical concert series will take place in March 2026, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
REQUIREMENTS:
Eligibility: Women playwrights who identify as Latin American or Spanish, including up to second-generation descendants, regardless of where they are based in the world.
Originality: The play must be unpublished and original.
Theme: Human Rights. We welcome texts that explore human rights in any form, including but not limited to issues of social justice, freedom of expression, gender equality, women’s and kids’ rights, racial and ethnic rights, migration, climate justice, and access to basic needs. Works can address personal, community, or global perspectives.
Language: Spanish.
Length: Minimum 20 pages and maximum 40 pages (letter size, Arial 12, 1.15 spacing).
Formatting: Number pages starting from the second page (after the cover).
Characters: A maximum of five. To ensure feasibility for live direction and presentation, we are limiting the number of characters in each text.
Submission Limit: One play per author. Previously selected authors may reapply two years after their initial selection.
Translation: Selected authors must provide an English translation by February 7, 2026, for the creation of subtitles to be used in the theatrical concerts in Chicago.
