Water People Theater announces its return to
live performances with
LORCA , living the experience.

Water People Theater, in collaboration with the Instituto Cervantes Chicago and Whatako Productions, presents LORCA, LIVING THE EXPERIENCE, created and directed by Artistic Director Iraida Tapias. It is a performance combining text and music written and composed by Federico García Lorca.

LORCA-Living The Experience, features performances by renowned actresses Rebeca Alemán, Ana Santos, Kris Tori, the rising Teresa Echeveste, and the special appearance of the  Venezuelan actress, Carlota Sosa.

Our return to in-person theater unites what we have created in these 20 years of history and what we have learned throughout the pandemic.

The actresses will share the stage with Camilo Rasquin, Andrea Salcedo, and Diego Salcedo, renowned musicians from the city of Chicago.

LORCA, Living the Experience, is a show that highlights the protagonists of Federico García Lorca‘s plays: The Prodigious Woman of the Shoemaker, Doña Rosita the Spinster, Blood Wedding, The House of Bernarda Alba, Yerma, and Mariana Pineda.

Through video mapping, the poet and his characters become immersed in an atmosphere filled with flamenco music written and composed by Lorca through heel tapping, piano, guitar, and voice. Through these female voices and his music, Lorca speaks to the audience about free will, profound pain, passionate love, imprisoned blood, the absence of hope, and ultimately revealing the profound meaning of freedom.

THANK YOU

Theater is an essential space that allows us to bring strong themes to the stage and engage the audience to become agents of change for a fairer society in which discrimination, hatred, and racism have no place.

Helped with we have built in the past 20 years and what we learned throughout the pandemic, LORCA-Living the Experience has allowed for further discussions about freedom and allowed us to create something we had never done before.

THANK YOU to the cast, crew, audience, collaborators, and foundations for joining us, for having been an essential part of our return to face-to-face theater, and for respecting the theater we create. We could not have done this without you.

Enjoy the reviews and some comments from our beloved audience.

Thank you for being Water People Theater.

“Superb! An incredible creative combination of good acting, music, performance and media. Profound texts from Garcia Lorca’s works. So relevant. I only wanted more… This is a piece not one should miss. Excellent acting! Great direction. Looking forward for the next Water People Theater group play.”

– María Stare

“The main highlight in the writing of this artist born and murdered in the Spaniard region of Granada, is the breadth of his vision of the feminine. This was the compass for the creation of the show, which takes us vertiginously through the most representative women of Lorca’s imaginary.”

– Carlos Roa

“Lorca Living The Experience, is a bold and high quality return to live theater by Water People Theater”

– Vanesa Valecillos

“Bellísimo trabajo de dirección y actuación de un estupendo elenco. El teatro, poesía, música y dibujos de García Lorca vibran en un escenario multimedia que te inmerge en el mundo lorquiano. ¡Un sueño!”

– Roció Ferreira
