Last Thursday, the Water People Theater Studio welcomed a new group from the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. Once again, we met young people who approach theater not from certainty, but from curiosity and the desire to explore.
Through readings, scene work, and exercises focused on the body, listening, and presence, the process invited participants to engage without the pressure of doing things “right.” Instead, it opened space for discovery, what happens when a word is spoken aloud and received by another.
There were moments of focus, shared laughter, and attentive silence. Once again, theater emerged as a space where every voice finds room and every gaze matters.
This work reflects our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful artistic experiences for new generations, fostering connection across diverse social and cultural contexts. In that room, the future was already present.
