ABRIMOS CAMINOS | WE OPEN PATHS

An extraordinary encounter between two icons of Contemporary Art, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and American poet Sylvia Plath, in which they share the most intimate and passionate moments of their lives.

MUSAS imagines an encounter between Frida Kahlo y Sylvia Plath, two of the twentieth century’s most iconic artists. Separated by time, geography, and culture, both women challenged the expectations placed upon them and forged artistic voices that continue to resonate across generations. Through a visually striking and deeply sensory staging, MUSAS explores art, identity, love, female freedom, and the cost of refusing to become who society expects them to be. MUSAS invites audiences into an intimate confrontation with two artists whose questions still feel dangerously contemporary. A haunting theatrical experience that reclaims Frida Kahlo y Sylvia Plath as deeply human voices.

Reseñas

“…The play is full of intense dramatic moments, Kahlo writhes in pain on a gurney, Plath rages against her unfaithful husband. Monica Steuer and Rebeca Aleman throw themselves heart and soul into recreating Plath and Kahlo…” – Jack Helbig, CHICAGO READER

…The performances are excellent. As Kahlo, Rebeca Alemán is a whirlwind of energy, definitely the dominant personality, contrasted with Mónica Steuer’s Plath, played as a somewhat wan, lost soul. The actors embrace the choices they make, character-wise, and present wholly believable people. Great performances highlight entertaining…” – Joy Campbell, CHICAGO THEATER BEAT

“If Frida Kahlo Smoked a Blunt with Sylvia Plath” – Daniel Larkin, HYPERALLERGIC.COM

Plath and Kahlo become bosom buddies over tequila, art, and heartache.” Antonio Minino, THEASY.COM

“El dramaturgo juega al encuentro ficticio de ambas artistas del siglo XX. Sus logros y fracasos, sus miedos y sus temeridades, sus semejanzas y diferencias, el amor irracional de ambas por sus esposos y su entrega absoluta al arte.– ELMUNDOCULTURAL
