Water People Theater and The Poetry Foundation in collaboration with American Writers Museum and Instituto Cervantes of Chicago present the World Premiere of WALT WHITMAN AND FEDERICO GARCÍA LORCA / An Extraordinary Encounter, in the celebration of Walt Whitman`s 200th birthday.
Adapted and directed by Iraida Tapias this is a fictional encounter between two icons of Art History: Walt Whitman revered one of America’s most significant nineteenth-century poets, and Federico García Lorca one of the most important Spanish poets and dramatists of the twentieth century. A theatrical concert of the most emblematic works by Whitman and Lorca: Leaves of Grass, Poeta en New York, Song of Myself, El Público, Specimen Days, Llanto by Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, Memoranda during the War, Sonetos del amor oscuro, I Hear America Singing, and Ode to Walt Whitman. .
With the extraordinary performances by Víctor Maraña as Federico García Lorca also accompanied by the lyrical singer Camilo Rasquin and the pianist Samuel Ocean’s
English and Spanish subtitles.
